18 year old arrested for sharing fake news remanded

The 18-year-old arrested for forging the letterhead of the Presidential Secretariat and circulating misinformation on social media platforms pertaining to the coronavirus has been remanded till the 22nd of October.

The order was issued by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Mohamad Mihail. The youth was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department in Meetiyagoda yesterday.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana said a case will be filed against the youth on charges in the Penal Code, Police Ordinance and Computer Crimes Act.
