Attorney General Dappula de Livera has advised senior officials over producing facts before Magistrate’s Courts to halt Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) commemoration ceremonies (Maaveerar Naal / Great Heroes’ Day) that have been planned in parts of the Northern Province this week.
Coordinating Secretary of the Attorney General State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne told NewsRadio the officials made submissions before the Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi Magistrate’s Courts today.
Jayaratne said several officials were due to make submissions before the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court as well.
However, she said owing to the inclement weather officials were unable to travel via air adding that the submissions will accordingly be made tomorrow.
The Jaffna High Court last week rejected four petitions filed against restraining orders obtained over the LTTE commemorations.
Police said celebrations have been planned in the Northern Province on the 25th, 26th and 27th of November with the petitions filed against efforts by the Police and health authorities to halt commemorations.
The Mannar and Vavuniya Magistrates Courts earlier issued two restraining orders against the commemorations.
The LTTE commemoration day is marked on the 27th of November, to mark the death of the first LTTE cadre.
