Experts have reiterated the importance of wearing a good quality mask, as Sri Lanka is experiencing a spike in coronavirus infections.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Professor Neelika Malavige of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura noted that N95 masks provide the best protection.
She said surgical masks also provide protection if worn appropriately.
Professor Neelika Malavige also encouraged the practice of double masking to prevent coronavirus infections, by doubling up a surgical mask with a cloth covering.
She noted wearing merely a cloth mask is insufficient.
Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr. SM Arnold meanwhile stated wearing any face covering is better than none.
He said if someone is interested in double masking, a surgical mask should be worn first and then it should be covered by a mask made out of cloth.
Dr. SM Arnold said double masking will help prevent infected persons from spreading the virus.
