Island-wide travel restrictions will remain in place until 4am on the 7th of June.
The Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva said restrictions will not be eased on the 31st of May and 4th of June as announced earlier.
Island-wide travel restrictions are in place since the 21st of May.
Divisional Secretaries and Government Agents have been instructed to distribute essential goods through mobile vendors and therefore the public has been requested to remain at home.
Restrictions were relaxed on Tuesday for the public to purchase essential items.
However, several incidents were reported on Tuesday where the public disregarded health guidelines in place to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.
According to Health Ministry data, the number of coronavirus cases being confirmed in the country daily following the imposition of travel restrictions has reduced considerably.
