Child labour increased worldwide-ILO

The International Labour Organization says the number of child labourers across the world has increased significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at media briefing at the Government Information Department today, Country Director for the ILO Country Office for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Simrin Singh said a programme for their social security must be formulated to eradicate child labour from the world.

Singh said the procedure of identifying child labourers and directing them towards education should be strengthened. World Day Against Child Labour is marked tomorrow.
