Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa says the government has given priority to take measure to fully reopen the country and through economic management to provide concessions to the general public.
The Finance Minister made this observation when he met with a group of Heads of Local Government bodies at Temple Tress today.
Minister Basil Rajapaksa said the present administration lost multiple local and international revenue streams due to the closure of the country on several occasion adding that only by keeping the country open the government will be able to generate a sustainable income.
The Finance Minister said during the time of the war the country’s foreign reserves remained at only US$ 1.2 billion adding however the government now has US$ 4 billion and therefore claimed they will be able to resolve the current economic crisis.
Finance Minister Rajapaksa said the government is prepared to face any situation despite some projecting the US Dollar to appreciate further and thereby crippling the economy.
Minister Basil Rajapaksa also noted that while fulfilling his duties as the Minister of Finance he will also serve his party which he formed while in the opposition.
