Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 cases tally go past 400,000

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 caseload surged past 400,000 on Wednesday (25) as the health ministry’s epidemiology unit added over 4,000 new cases to the total.

Tests conducted from last Saturday (21) to Tuesday (24) confirmed 4,484 additional cases that had not been included in the daily caseloads for those four days. With the addition of these cases to the tally, Sri Lanka’s total COVID-19 cases since March 2020 are now at 403,285.

Meanwhile, the death toll has increased to 7,750 as of Wednesday, and according to the epidemiology unit, there are 46,605 active cases at the time of writing.

Only about six million Sri Lankans are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
