Cabinet nod to ban seven single use plastic products

The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to ban the production, sale and distribution of seven single use plastic products in the country.

The Ministry of Environment said accordingly the relevant Gazette Notification will be issued when the recommendation of the Attorney General’s Department is received.

Plastic straws and mixers, cutlery, cups, string hopper trays and artificial grass carpets will accordingly be banned.

Polythene garlands and the use of polythene to pack incense sticks is due to be banned, while polythene and plastic shopping bags will also be banned.
