Teachers and Principals Trade Unions have decided to hold a series of protests opposite 312 Divisional Education Offices island wide to mark World Teachers’ Day on the 6th of October.
Speaking during a media briefing convened by the Teachers’ and Principals’ Trade Union Alliance today, the Chief Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union Joseph Stalin demanded a prompt solution to salary anomalies and the protection of the right to education of children.
Stalin said 84 days have lapsed, with no solution provided by the government.
He said the government is proposing dates to re-open schools and holding discussions with the Minister of Education stating all primary schools will be reopened.
Stalin said however teachers and principals are required in order to reopen schools, adding the only way to get them to resume teaching activities is to provide a solution by holding discussions with trade unions.
