The Ministry of Health says the COVID-19 risk still prevails in the country and therefore the public should continue to follow health guidelines.
Speaking to media in Colombo, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said coronavirus numbers have always increased two weeks after major holidays or when the country commemorates any events by hosting large gatherings.
Dr. Hemantha Herath said large gatherings have always contributed to the rise in COVID-19 infections.
He said therefore those organising such events and participants should act responsibly.
Dr. Herath stressed that the support of the public is needed to keep the infection rate at minimum level.
