Chairman of the Sri Lanka Podujana Engineers Front Vijitha Herath says the country has lost a talented engineer with the tragic death of Priyantha Kumara following the murder by a mob in Sialkot, Pakistan on Friday.
Speaking in Kandy, Herath said the government must ensure such incidents do not occur in the future.
He said he hopes the government will ensure justice in this regard as these professionals are engaged in bringing in foreign exchange.
Herath said they cannot accept that he had committed blasphemy as he had been staying in Pakistan for over a decade.
The Chairman of the Union said he was a peace-loving individual.
Herath alleged this was a murder motivated by extremist beliefs.
He said the Union has made a request to the Cabinet led by the Prime Minister in this regard.
Vijitha Herath said the government has already decided to provide relief to the individual’s family adding his remains will be brought back to Sri Lanka tomorrow.
